Advanced Reporting 3: Manipulating and Styling Components
This guide covers how to arrange and style components in the Web Report Designer using the Properties Panel.
Changing Report Page Orientation
The default orientation is portrait mode. To change it to landscape mode:
- Go to the Properties Panel.
- Expand Page Settings.
- Tick the Landscape checkbox.
Unticking it reverts to portrait mode.
Changing Measurement Units
The default measurement unit is hundredths of an inch. To change it to tenths of a millimeter:
- Go to the Properties Panel.
- Expand Page Settings and update the measurement unit.
The page height and width will now be displayed in millimeters.
Applying Global Font Styles
- Select the entire report.
- Go to Appearance > Font Settings.
- Choose a font (e.g., Segoe UI) and set the default size (e.g., 10 pt).
- Save changes.
Newly added components will inherit the new font, but existing ones will not. To apply the new font to existing components, delete and re-add them.
Arranging Components in the Layout
Select a component on the Design Surface. Use the Layout section in the Properties Panel to:
- Center Horizontally: Aligns the component within its parent.
- Center Vertically: Aligns the component vertically.
- Fit to Container: Resizes the component to fill its parent.
Alternatively, resize manually using the square handles. Drag components to reposition them. Select multiple components (hold Ctrl) and align them using alignment options.
Adding and Modifying Tables
Drag a Table from the Toolbox to a band (e.g., Group Header). Resize it as needed. Select a table cell and use the Properties Panel to:
- Insert/Delete rows and columns.
- Resize columns evenly using Distribute Columns Evenly.
- Modify text within cells by double-clicking.
Applying Styles to Table Cells
- Increase row height using Properties Panel.
- Change Font Settings: Make text bold. Change font color (e.g., light gray foreground, dark background).
- Add borders: Go to Appearance > Borders. Select Right Border and set a light gray color.
Final Layout Adjustments
- Reduce margins to maximize space.
- Align the report title at the top of the Report Header.
- Add an image: Insert a Picture Box. Select an image via the Properties Panel. Adjust sizing to fit the Picture Box.
- Add a separator line after the Report Header.
- Adjust components to avoid overlapping.
Adjusting Report Structure
- Resize the Group Header and move the table up.
- Align page numbers to the right.
- Adjust the Page Header Band height.
- Rename Total for Group to Total for Department and make it bold.
- Align the Total for Report label properly.
- Center the Page Numbers in the Report Footer.
- Resize the Detail Band for a clean layout.
